Abstract

This study employed a descriptive design using a survey technique. A self-made questionnaire distributed to 34 respondents chosen through simple quota sampling. The instrument s translated into Tagalog. Data analyzed using frequency percentage and mean. The study aimed to determine the frequency of low back pain and back hygiene practices of laundry women servicing students of De La Salle University-Aguinaldo and De La Salle University Medical Center. The study population consisted of laundry women less than 40 years old servicing students’ dorm at Villa Nicasia V. Students Homes, and Student Village with at least six months of work experience. A total of 34 laundry women qualified for the study, and results of the study were as follows, (1) 94% of the respondents experienced a localized, dull, lumbosacral pain aggravated by prolonged sitting and promptly relieved by rest. (2) The most frequent position was when washing while sitting on a low chair, (3) the laundry women frequently used improper body mechanics when washing, ironing and hanging clothes. (4) Back hygiene, poorly practiced by the respondents.
