Abstract

Due to the high incidence of cerebrovascular disease, and the importance of achieving independence in activities of daily living, the researchers prompted to assess the completeness and correctness of physical therapy interns' record of functional assessment of their cerebrovascular accident patients. A review of the chart of cerebrovascular accident patients discharged from January 1 to December 31, 1991, done. Each subject selected based on the inclusion criteria made by the researchers. Overall results showed that only 3% of the charts reviewed contained a complete record. Ten percent of the recorded data on the functional assessment of cerebrovascular accident patients were correct. Furthermore, only one center had a special form available for recording functional capacity; however, this not consistently used. The authors, therefore, conclude that evaluation, monitoring and recording data on the functional capacity therapy interns were not consistently nor these routinely done. The researchers like to recommend that another study conducted to evaluate the manner of a recording of assessment on the functional capacity should thoroughly review and discussed with physical therapy interns and students.
