Abstract

This study determined the effectiveness of the WHO CBR Training Manual for persons with difficulty in moving, training package on how to prevent deformities of the person's arms and legs when used with the local health workers. The descriptive method of analysis used in this study with Five (5) respondents from San Roque, Dasmariñas, Cavite chose through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires and a practice exam. The results of all the written exams and performance evaluation of the CHWs reviewed together with the feedback report of the PT received on the training session. The results of the study showed that all CHWs (5) joined the study were females, high school graduates with more than five years of experience in health services. Results indicated, there was an increase in the post-test correct scores since a significant improvement in the written performance of the CHWs observed. However, there were not emphasized in the manual such as different disease entities that might lead to difficulty in moving; common sites and types of deformities in the extremities; proper bed positioning. All CHWs were able to perform the following skills with 90.74% accuracy; changing the position of the extremities; exercising the joints in a good position. Although with an average score as above, this is not a guarantee in the accurate skills of all Filipino volunteer CHWs in the country since all CHWs of San Roque Dasmariñas, Cavite cannot consider, as truly representative of the whole population of CHWs. This implies that the manual was effective, as far as this study concerned given with highly educated CHWs as respondents.
