Abstract

The study aimed to develop a manual on proper back hygiene and to determine its effectivity in increasing the knowledge of patients with low back pain. This would serve as a readily accessible written material for educating patients with low back pain. This study employed a descriptive design using survey technique. A total number of 50 respondents were included in the study chosen through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires and a practice exam. The instrument was translated into Tagalog. The data from the questionnaire was tallied, tabulated, and analyzed. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. Based on the findings, the research concludes that, majority of the respondents were male, college graduates, and employees within the age range of 20-30 y/o. The least improvements were observed in the modality of treatment considered for home therapy and in proper positioning. The greatest improvement were observed in sitting and prolonged standing. Based on the computed t value, the manual was effective in increasing the knowledge of patients with low back pain regarding proper back hygiene.
