Abstract

The main objective of the study was to find out if COPD patients of the Lung Center of the Philippines know and practice energy conservation and work simplification in their daily routine. All data were analyzed descriptively. Data was obtained by means of a questionnaire. A total of 16 respondents were included in the study. The data from the questionnaire was tallied, tabulated, and analyzed. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency. Results of the study showed that 75% of the respondents were 57 yrs. And above, more than half of COPD patients are previous smokers. Construction work was the occupation off the respondents with the biggest percentage included in the study, more than half of the subjects accepted the idea of ECWS while only 6% practiced their daily activities in the correct manner according to ECWS. The authors suggest that COPD patient read the manual regarding ECWS and practice what is written on it. They are encouraged to share their knowledge about the ECWS to others with similar pulmonary problems. Furthermore, the authors strongly suggest that the staff of the rehabilitation unit of the Lung Center of the Philippines provide and instruct the COPD patients under their care regarding ECWS technique.
