Abstract
The objective of the study was to determine the frequency of separation among married male spinal cord injury patients post-injury. This study will serve as a baseline information for physical therapists in determining what programs we could give among SCI patients and their relatives especially the wife and children. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. A total of 59 respondents with a diagnosed case of spinal cord injury from Philippine Orphopedic Center, AFP Medical Center and Tahanang Walang Hagdanan chosen through simple quota sampling. The data from the questionnaire was tallied, tabulated, and analyzed. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. Results showed that 7 out of 59 SCI patients are separated which makes up 3.4 percent of the total study population. This result showed that there is a strong binding of marriage among Filipino couples. The authors suggest that a follow-up study be conducted regarding the factors that contribute to the strong binding of marriage among Filipino couples. This is to help the psycho-social field or rehabilitation in formulating programs and seminars that will maintain the positive traits, behavior, values and mores among the majority of Filipino families.
