Abstract

The increasing incidence in the occurrence of foot complications on diabetics has bought about the idea of coming up with a manual to aid in proper care of the diabetic foot. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 50 respondents were patients with Diabetes Mellitus chosen from four (4) affiliation centers of DLSU-A through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires was translated into tagalog. The data from the questionnaire was tallied, tabulated, and analyzed. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. The significance of the study is aimed at educating diabetic patients on foot care and hygiene. Based on the findings, the research concludes that (1) most of the respondents are female, 40 years old below and 41-50 years old, college graduates, and have had Diabetes Mellitus for more than 4 years. (2) the authors therefore concluded that the manual, "Wastong Pag-aalaga ng Paa ng Taong May Diabetes Mellitus", was effective in partially increasing the knowledge of diabetic patients regarding proper foot care. (3) therefore, if a patient forgets some of his/her activities, he/she can always review his/her home instructions manual.
