Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectivity of a training manual in increasing the knowledge of flight attendants of Philippine Airlines (PAL) regarding the practice of assisting disabled passengers. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 50 respondents were randomly chosen among those present at the PAL Inflight Training Center at Pasay City. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires. A T-test for testing the difference between two means for paired data was used to determine if there indeed was a significant increase in test scores from the pretest to the post-test. At the end of the study, it was established that the manual helped in increasing the knowledge of PAL flight attendants regarding the practice of assisting disabled passengers. The result of the t-test showed the computed to be 38.3 indicating a significant increase from pretest to post-test scores. It was observed that the subjects failed to score high in the pretest in all areas of evaluation especially on proper body mechanics and identification of common problems encountered by disabled passengers. Thus, the authors concluded that the training manual was effective in helping increase the knowledge of PAL flight attendants regarding the practice of assisting disabled passengers. The study however, did not proceed to test if there was any improvement in the level of skill of the subjects after reading the manual. It is the group's recommendation that another research be done to test the effectivity of the manual in increasing the skill of the subjects.
