Abstract

Beginning body-builders need to fully understand the different aspect of body- building as well as the training process in order to successfully prevent the so called post-exercise problems. Body- builders are pre disposed to experience problems after a heavy work-out because of the fact that they are physically active and therefore, stressed. Because of these, the authors conducted a study aimed at developing a manual for beginning body-builders and tested its effectiveness in increasing their knowledge on the prevention of post-exercise problems. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 28 respondents were beginning body builders chose from five (5) various gyms in Quezon City from November to December of 1995 chosen through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Results were analyzed through deviation and t-test. Based on the gathered data, the manual was considered to be effective in increasing the knowledge of beginning body-builders regarding the prevention of post-exercise problems. The researchers recommended that manual alone cannot effectively prevent post-exercise problems that a beginning body-builder might experience. There should be a back-up information on the proper body mechanics, on the anatomy and physiology in the form of brochures, lectures, and verbal discussions.
