Abstract

This qualitative study will be for the benefit of the people of Apalit Pampanga because they will soon be able to avail of Physical Therapy services in their town, the professionals, because it will be an added source of income and employment, and lastly the Physical Therapy Interns because it will serve as an affiliation center. The study focused on the factors to be considered in putting up a rehabilitation center like the health profile of the people of Apalit, possible sources of referrals and the existence of other P.T units in nearby towns. The study was conducted in Apalit, Pampanga specifically at the ASCOM Hospital where the Physical Therapy clinic is to be raised. Interviews were conducted with the hospital director, administrator and resident doctors of ASCOM as well as the heads of the different local barangay health center and serval neurologists, cardiologist, orthopedics, and pediatrics in San Fernando, Pampanga and Bulacan Provincial Hospital in Malolos. According to them, majority of their patients who require rehabilitation have to take extra effort in going to other municipalities like San Fernando and Malolos Bulacan just to avail of the Physical Therapy services that they need. The datas obtained from Different local barangay, health centers in Apalit showed that cases like hypertension, myocardial infarction, diabetes mellitus, asthma, rheumatic heart disease, and cerebrovascular accidents are consistent in the ledger of the most common disease and disabilities encountered by the people of Apalit Pampanga. The doctors of Jose P. Lingad hospital is San Fernando Pamapanga and Bulacan Provincial Hospital in Malolos stated that they do have a lot of patients from Apalit who require Physical Therapy and that they are willing to refer them once a rehabilitation center is set up in ASCOM. The study showed that it is feasible to put up a rehabilitation center in Apalit, specifically at the ASCOM-DLSU Friendship Hospital based from the following results; the administrator and director of ASCOM are willing to support a PT clinic; the doctors from the nearby hospitals are willing to refer patients; majority of the most common causes of diseases and disabilities encountered by the people of Apalit can be rehabilitated; and lastly, the people of Apalit will no longer suffer the inconveniences of going to other municipalities just to avail of Physical Therapy services
