Abstract
This is a descriptive study on the most common sexual complaints of arthritic individuals of Philippine Orthopedic Center, Mt. Banawe Hospital, Ospital ng Maynila, National Kidney Institute, Veterans Memorial Hospital and De La Salle University Medical Center from the period of November 3 to December 23, 1994. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 58 respondents were chose from six (6) different affiliation centers of De La Salle University - Health Science Campus College of Physical Therapy chosen through simple quota sampling. Data were collected, tables were constructed and percentage were computed. It aims to determine the sexual problems of patients with regards to their sexual functioning, the frequency of sexual contacts and the sexual positions preferred and their level of knowledge regarding the effects of arthritis on sexual function. Results revealed that the most common complains of patient was decrease in libido. Likewise, these patients also complains of joint pains during and after every sexual activity, leading to a decrease in the frequency of sexual intercourse among arthritic patients prefer the usual man on top position due to factors like easy fatigability among arthritic females and length of intercourse that greatly affects their conditions as to joint pain aggravation. The researchers therefore recommend that other researchers continue the study to develop a well defined educational sexual programs and seminars on appropriate sexual positions and effects of arthritic medications or drugs in normal sexual function among arthritic patients.
