Abstract

Any program or activity that has as its goal, the enhancement of individuals skills and abilities, clarification of values and development of increased faculty motivation is what we call Faculty Development Program. This descriptive study of the Faculty Development Program of six (6) respondents were members of the PT/OT schools of the Association of Philippine Physical and Occupational Therapy Schools (APPTOTS) using the random sampling method. An interview schedule consisted of an open-ended question was used in gathering the data. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. All respondents agreed to the idea of sharing facilities and resources for faculty development but expressed a lack of these in their respective school. Based on the findings, the authors therefore conclude that the most common form of faculty development program present in the 6 schools were seminar/ workshop aimed at improving teaching skills. these were usually done within their respective school. the respondents agreed to the idea of sharing facilities and resources for faculty development. However, most of the Faculty Development Program of each school were unstructured. The authors therefore recommend that the various PT/OT schools should consider organizing a structured faculty development program for the inexperienced and experienced faculty members that will provide venues for the improvement of both their teaching skills and professional growth. The authors suggested that Pt/OT schools should plan and organize a Faculty Development Program which aimed at improving other areas of practice such as administrative, managerial, clinical and research. It is also suggested that the Faculty Development Program should include upgrading of salary, giving incentives and scholarship grants.
