Abstract

In a study of patients with cerebrovascular accident, it was stressed that a successful rehabilitation should be regarded as a 24-hours treatment and should not only be an hour treatment session spent in the center. Rather, it must also be done during the remaining hours of the day. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to six (6) respondents were cerebrovascular accident patients and their caretakers at Bautista Hospital PT Clinic, Cavite City chosen through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires and translated into Tagalog. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage, mean, and T-test. In a related study, concluded that most clinicians agree that cerebrovascular accident patients and their caretakers comply poorly to home instructions which can be considered as detrimental to the patients because the deleterious effects or complications of immobility, prolonged bed rest, and general body weakness may set in. In this study majority of the respondents was age range of 45 to 75 years old for the patients and from 19 to 38 years old for the caretakers. Sue to the increasing majority of patients suffering from the adverse effects of cerebrovascular accident. The researchers therefore conclude that a structured formal training accident patients and their caretakers on safe, efficient, assisted transfer techniques. The respondents strongly recommend that a more extensive training with wider coverage and a greater population/ number of trainees be conducted. The training with the use of the manual is recommended to be incorporated onto the over-all rehabilitation program of the patients.
