Abstract
Common congenital and acquired pediatric deformities such as scoliosis, congenital clubfoot, flatfoot, genu valgum and varum , and congenital amputation are commonly seen in the rehabilitation clinics and by the time the parents become aware of the presence of any of the above mentioned become aware of the presence of any of the above mentioned conditions, the deformity may have already been causing the child pain, and emotional disturbance. this descriptive study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of a training program which aimed to increase the knowledge off school teachers in identifying common and acquired congenital deformities, know its complication, learn simple managements, and know when and where to refer upon discovering the deformity on their students. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 11 respondents were teachers at Langkaan Elementary School, Dasmariñas, Cavite chosen through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Data were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage, mean, and T-test. Comparing the scores of the two exams, the subject gained considerable knowledge quantified by increase in the raw score of each individuals in the post test than in the pre-test. To assess the effectivity of training program developed, T-test for the difference between 2 means for paired samples was utilized. The authors would like to recommend the same training be conducted among mothers since they are the nearest individuals who have the first encounter with the children. Furthermore, other school teachers should also be trained or if not, at least be given a manual containing basic information about common congenital and acquired deformities in children and lastly, that this training program be presented to the department of Education, Culture, and Sports to be included in the curriculum of Division Schools because teachers play a very important role in determining these deformities since most of the time they are with the students.
