Abstract

An intensive care program must be carried out regarding the most common musculoskeletal problems among the carpenters in the hope of preventing disabling sequelae. Aiming to increase the knowledge of the carpenters regarding these problems, the researchers developed a manual salient points relevant to both prevention and rehabilitation. The researchers used the descriptive design using survey technique. Self-made questionnaire was distributed to 10 respondents were carpenters working under the maintenance department of DLSU -Medical Center chosen through simple quota sampling. The survey instrument used pre-test and post-test questionnaires and written in Filipino. They had no other medical problems and were willing to participate in the study. Based on the results of this study, majority of the respondents aged 25-40 years old. The manual was proven effective in that a significant increase in the participants knowledge was revealed after comparing their performance in the pre and post exam. Based on the results , the manual was effective in increasing the knowledge of carpenters in the prevention and management of different upper extremity musculoskeletal problems. the authors therefore recommend that the manual be used in other setting to educate other carpenters in Cavite. Subjects can include other workers faced with the same problems
