Abstract
This descriptive study aimed to identify the common disabilities that are present in Barangay San Agustin, Trece Martirez, City. Data were collected using the questionnaire/ interview method from 59 respondents were household with a study population of 355 chosen through simple quota sampling. The head of the family was initially interviewed and in case of his absence, any reliable member of the family, to find out if there is any disabled family member. Queries were given and the researchers noted down on the guideline questionnaire items related to be individuals disability. The instrument was translated into Tagalog. Data collected were gathered and interpreted using frequency percentage and mean. Results showed the following (1) 17% of the study population had a disability; (2) The most common disability found was a body disposition primarily as a results of arthritis; (3) most individuals with body disposition disabilities were in their adulthood (aging from 65 and above), female and common among housewives. The authors recommend that a Community Based Rehabilitation be established in Barangay San Agustin, Trece Martirez City that will provide its people with rehabilitation needs. the authors also recommend that a community assembly be conducted through the efforts of available health workers in the barangay and future researchers , studies and training manuals, to awaken the minds of the people about the existing/ predominating impairments and disabilities in the community and that the families of involved individuals should participated during the community assembly for total commitment to the whole community program. Furthermore, it is recommended that members of the rehabilitation team, particularly physiatrists, physical therapist, and nurses be part of the total CBR program in their community. Lastly, it is recommended that this partial disability survey be followed-up utilizing more time and manpower in order to again a more accurate data of the disabilities in the entire community.
