Abstract
Bodybuilding has become very popular among male individual between 15-25 years of age, However, bodybuilding imposes injuries and could be prevented one way or the other. The objective of the study is to identify the five most common post exercise problems among body builders. The study was conducted in different body building gyms around Cavite and Las Piñas which included male body builders with at least three continuous months of steady training. Survey instruments used to gather data was a questionnaire and all data gathered was analyzed descriptively. It was learned from the study that five most common post-exercise problems inflecting a beginning body builder still includes: General Muscles Soreness, Shoulder Joint Pain, General Body Fatigue, Low Back Pain, Knee Joint Pain and Dizziness. Factors contributing to occurrence of these problems can be seen from a review of the results and data received. Their respective trainers initially for the beginners to have a better grasp on the basis of lifting weights did orientation regarding their body building program. But despite these facts, there is a little monitoring on the beginner's progress on the systematical progression to a higher level. This lack of guidelines predisposes the beginner to adapt numerous yet erroneous practices which are prevalent among gyms and training centers which leads to post exercise injury. On a clear analysis, however, significant numbers of beginners are having practices in an unsafe and counter productive to injury free body building. Firstly, (82.34%) uses more than the standard of (2 exercises per body part) which beginners are advised to adhere to. Secondly a significant number of beginners (5.88%) train at below 8 repetitions per set which based on a study placed an individual on high risk vicinity of acquiring injury. Thirdly, despite the fact that 100% perform warm up exercises before training, some still do not perform it correctly. Also noticeable was that 58.82% performs warm up for less than 10 minutes beginning training. Within this range, the body is insufficiently prepared for the changes that can occur during the work out, hence, the body is in a state where in it is injury prone. However, another 11.76% performed warm up for more than 20 minutes and this case the body is in a state where in it is susceptible to over training. Also noted was the insufficient use of safety equipment during training. Wearing weightlifting belts accounts for 50% which is the most beneficial in preventing Low back pain during weightlifting for 50% which is the most beneficial in preventing Low back pain during weightlifting thus explain that low back pain among beginning body builder is now decreasing in occurrence. Other data gathered such as cool down at the rest time is only for baseline data purposes. This study provides much practical information regarding post-exercise problem among beginning bodybuilders and basic practices of these athletes used for workouts. Knowledge gathered from this research was purely for descriptive purposes and no attempt was made to establish relationship between post-exercise problems and basic body-building practices.
