Abstract

Physical Therapy, an allied medical profession had long established its roots in Dasmariñas, Cavite. Jose P. Rizal National Medical Researcher Center (JPRNMC) Physical Rehabilitation Unit, to note, is still operating after 14 years of service and now as Dasmariñas, Cavite is continually growing as a semi-industrialized town, so does physical therapy. Because of this, the authors delved into the townspeople's knowledge of physical therapy and its methods of treatment, to inform the readers, how the many improvements and built institutions influence the inhabitant's knowledge of the profession. A descriptive research design using primary data collection was done questionnaires being utilized to conduct the study to residents of Brgys Burol I, Bayan (Zone IV), Salitran III and Sabang. The residents should be more than 15 years old and with a residence of at least 5 years in Dasmariñas. The data obtained were presented in tables. The frequency distribution of the general data obtained were classified along with the other findings in the study. Despite the presence of a PT college and 3 rehabilitation centers in Dasmariñas, Cavite, only 63% of the subjects were aware of PT as an allied medical profession and only 54% were aware of the presence of rehabilitation centers. This rather reflects PT falling short in the aspect of promotion. Based on the results of the study, the authors strongly believe that the promotion of PT would answer the public's ignorance of it, not to mention, the unemployment of some physical therapists.
