Abstract

This is a descriptive study using secondary data to identify the common elbow conditions seen at the Department of Rehabilitation of the Philippine Orthopedic Institute (POI) from January 1995 to November 1997. The study was conducted at the PIO were gathered based on clinical records of patients with elbow conditions treated at this center from January 1995 to November 1997 . A total of 90 patients were used in the study Data obtained revealed the folowing results: 1. The common elbow conditions seen at Philippine Orthopedic Institute from January 1998 to November 1997 are Lateral epicondylitis, Fractures, Medical Epicondylitis, Post-operative conditions, Dislocations, Strain, Bursitis, Sprain, Nerve palsy, Tendinitis and Styloiditis. 2. The common elbow conditions identified are equally seen in both sexes. 3. Most elbow conditions occur during middle adulthood (41-65 age group_ followed by early adulthood (21-40 age group) and lastly, childhood (2-10 age group). 4. The common elbow conditions are common among patients with no occupation or retired individuals followed by bankers and employees. 5. The researchers recommend that a further study on the most common elbow conditions be conducted specifically the correlation of the diagnosis to sex, age, occupation and handedness.
