Abstract
It was observes that not all stretching technique performed by Taekwondo athletes are correct, and that their mistakes may lead to various musculoskeletal injuries. To prove the validity of this assumption ,this study was conducted. It was done also to determine the common faulty stretching technique utilized by a chosen group of subjects. The Taekwondo senseis and jins of Body Fitness Gym in Las Piñas, Metro Manila were chosen to be subjects and were observed on one of their training sessions. the subjects ages ranged from 16 to 39 y/o and were not involved in any other sports. It os restricted only in Taekwondo where all colors of belt from white to black were represented. This is a descriptive study aimed to determine the common faulty stretching technique performed by Taekwondo jins and senseis of Body Fitness Gym in Las Piñas, Metro Manila. Data was obtained through actual observation of one training session. Upon permission from the sensei, the session was videotaped and after which researchers, describing thee stretching technique accomplished a survey form. As the subjects perform their stretching regimen, the following technique were observed: position, duration of hold in seconds, holding the breath, and use of ballistic force. The collected data were presented with the construction of frequency tables, wherein an interpretation for each table was provided. Data obtained confirmed that faculty stretching technique are indeed practiced by Taekwondo athletes of Body Fitness Gym. It provide that the most common faulty stretching technique were as follows: inadequate duration of hold in less than 15 seconds; incorrect position while stretching; use of ballistic force during stretching; and use of the Valsalva maneuver. the researchers of this thesis recommend that an information campaign be launched and a manual be created in order to promote the proper stretching technique advocated by Kisner and Colby in their books, Therapeutic Exercise: Foundation and Technique. this is done in order to avoid any preventable injuries, as well as to help Taekwondo athletes attain the optimum flexibility vital in their chosen sport.
