Abstract
Identifying the most common cases found at Mary Mediatrix Medical Center will facilitate the improvement of rehabilitation programs by providing emphasis on the managements of those conditions most frequently encountered. This will improve the lives of the patients within the vicinity of Lipa City, Batangas. For this reason, the authors were led to the study of the 5 most common PT cases found in the Rehabilitation Department of Mary Mediatrix Medical Center on Lipa City, Batangas. A descriptive study was used to determine the 5 most common PT cases. The study was specifically conducted at the said hospital that is located at JP Laurel Highway, Lipa City. A total of 251 study population has been in the study. Cases selected were limited to PT conditions only. This was gathered by the use of patients logbook taken monthly from January until December of 1998. Out of the 40 conditions seen at Mary Mediatrix Medical Center, the 5 most common PT cases have been identified. they are the following:(1) Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) comprising 31.07% of the total study population, (2) Fracture comprising 6.73% of the total study population (4) Myofascial Pain Syndrome comprising 3.98% and (5) Traumatic Brain Injury comprising 3.58% of the total study population. It was found out that these five cases are consistenly seen as the most common regardless of age, sex. CVA, Fracture and Traumatic Brain ,Injury however, were more predominant among females. Most number of injuries were seen among the early to late adulthood and more out-patients are being treated in the said hospital. It was concluded that the conditions most frequently seen belong to the neurologic and orthopedic cases. Now that the 5 most common cases already been identified, the authors advocate that basic knowledge be imparted among the people of Lipa City concerning these conditions. In this way, more people will be educated with ways to prevent such conditions from happening to them.
