Abstract
Musicians, like any other occupational groups, can also acquire different musculoskeletal problems. It can usually attributed to static loading, highly repetitive light loading on joints and muscles. Most deformities are present in musicians who have been longer playing experience. The research discusses the hand deformities present among the members of the Citizens Band of Dasmariñas. It also tackles on what age and sex group are prone to have hand deformities and the measures taken by each band member to relieve the symptoms. The research is a descriptive study based on interviews and ocular inspection done on 42 active members of the Citizens Band of Dasmariñas who have been playing professionally for at least 3 years. The study was conducted at Bishop Felix Perez Hall, Dasmarias, Cavite with the permission of the master conductor of the band. One-on - one interviews were done, including ocular inspection on the affected areas before rehearsals for approximately 2 weeks. The study showed that only 13 out of 42 band members who met the criteria have hand deformities. The most common hand deformity present among them id thumb deviation who were clarinet players. Majority of them are male under early adulthood age group( 24-40 yrs old) and playing for more then 3 years. Most of the members are not aware of the presence of these deformities since they are not affected on their performance. The authors would like to suggest health education on hand rehabilitation to decrease the occurrence of hand deformity on their band members. The authors would like to recommend further study on this topic and the potential problem since they believe that physical therapist should be aware that the performing of occurrence and aggravation of hand deformities.
