Abstract

The disability survey in Barangay San Miguel, Dasmariñas, Cavite was conducted to identify the most disabilities , the number of disabled individuals, their socio-demographic characteristics and the five most common physical disabilities. 150 households were included in the study. 85 households coming from Brgy San Miguel I and 65 households from San Miguel II. A total of 181 individuals were found to have some of disability. According to the study, among the common disabilities identified in Brgy San Miguel (hearing , visual, mental, physical, medical, speech), Physical Disabilities was found to be most common while mental disability was found to be the least common. The 5 most common physical disabilities were: low back pain (44%) which ranks the most common form of physical disabilities , arthritis (36%), fracture Ue/LE (8.10%), amputation Ue/LE (7.9%) and burns (4%). The middle aged (41-65% y/o) group were found to be most affected with a disability and the same goes for male belonging to the working group. The researchers recommend that the Brgy be informed of the existing disabilities as well as impairments in their community and that early intervention through PT is needed to avoid further progression of disabilities. PA preventive management should also be emphasized through the Community Based Rehabilitation Program.
