Abstract
The study to determine the three most common work-related PT problems encountered by MERALCO employees at John F. Cotton Hospital from July 1999 - December 1999. Knowing the three most common work-related PT problems, the staff and members of Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation will give emphasis in the treatment and prevention of these problems. Fifty out of the total number of 520 patients with work-related PT problems, were interview due to time constraints since almost all of the patients are working. The researchers utilized the descriptive study as the research design. The study was conducted at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of John F. Cotton Hospital, with the subject involved MERALCO employees who encountered work-related PT problems, both males and females ranging from 21 to 50 and above. The reserchers gathered data by reviewing the patient's record and conducting an interview. The study was able to identify the three most common work-related PT problems encountered by MERALCO employees at JFCH from July 1999 - December 1999, which were as follows: (1) Strain, (2) Low Back Pain, (3) Sprain. The common age group and sex affected by the three most common work-related physical therapy problems were also identified: (1) Strain, males, 51 and up; (2) Low Back pain, males 51 and up ; (3) Sprain males, 31 to 35 years old. Fifty out of 520 MERALCO employees were interviewed, 28 of which belong to the administrative department and 22 belong to the field department. Among them 8 respondents noted that often disability had no effect on their work. The researchers would like to recommend the management and staff of DPRM-JFCH to conduct seminars regarding proper back hygiene discussing information on Energy Conservation and Joint Protection Techniques.
