Abstract
This was a study on the most common musculoskeletal problem acquired by the factory workers of the Warehouse Department of Universal Robina Corporation in FCIE, Dasmariñas, Cavite. The objectives of the study include: determining the demographic characteristics of the subjects according to sex, age, number of months employed, & their usual working activities; identifying the most common musculoskeletal problem acquired by the factory workers & the proportion of the workers with such, and to describe it as to area affected, effects on ADL & occupation, and its aggravating & relieving factors. A total of 25 out of the 30 workers in the warehouse department of the said company were considered as the study population. Majority of the workers in the department was men and been employed for the duration of 5 months. Of the different musculoskeletal problems, pain (52%) was identified to be the most common and 25 out of the 30 workers in the warehouse department were said to by symptomatic. This was prevalent among the workers who are aged 22 (32%). The shoulder area was said to be the most frequently affected area among the others. The identified most common musculoskeletal problem had the most effect on reaching activities (36%) and frequent rest periods (44%) in terms of aspects of activities of daily living and occupation, respectively. Maintenance of a certain position for prolonged periods was said to be the factor that aggravates the workers present condition. Rest was relative to the identified musculoskeletal problems as the relieving factor. The authors would like to recommend the following Physical Therapy programs, which include: pain management, a comprehensive approach on assessing the working conditions, observance of poor posture and faulty body mechanic of the factory workers and an awareness program with emphasis on observance of correct body mechanics and joint conservation techniques during performance of activities. These can be achieved thru changes in work style, pacing, conditioning and training. The immediate correction of such wrong practice would contribute to preventing the further aggravation of the workers' present condition.
