Abstract

The study was able to identify the 5 most common causes of demerits among DLSU-PT Interns Batch 2000 within the first 5 months of rotation in 5 satellite clinics. Furthermore, the study was able to determine the most common causes of demerits among DLSU-PT Interns Batch 2000 in each of the 5 satellite clinics, as well as the most common cause of demerits among the 5 satellite clinics. The information obtained are necessary and helpful for future researchers since it may serve as a basline data in doing a further study regarding the most common causes of demerits encountered in 5 satellite clinics. The study included randomly selected 88 regular DLSU PT Interns Batch 2000 who rotated in each of the 5 satellite clinics: ABMH, HBSI, Novaliches General Hospital, St. Dominic Medical Center, and San Jose District Hospital. A sample population of 20 DLSU PT interns who rotated in each of the 5 satellite clinics within the first 5 months of rotation was considered in this study. The responses from the questionnaire were gathered, organized, tabulated and analyzed so that results were drawn. The results of the study showed that the most common cause of demerits at HBSI and St. Dominic Medical Center was failure to document patient's condition accurately while at San Jose District Hospital, it was failure to aftercare machines and facilities. On the other hand, failure to submit documents on time was prevalent at ABMH and lastly, tardiness was most common cause of demerits at Novaliches General Hospital. The causes of demerits were basically personal negligence of PT Interns which points to the issue of professionalisn and readiness that they possess in the initial practice of their chosen field. The researchers therefore recommend that the future PT interns build strong self-discipline, promptness and observance of proper time management for efficient clinical performance. Positive reinforcement/merits as well as strict compliance of policies with keen observation of ethical standards should be practiced to minimize these demerits. The methods of training of clinical supervisors of each satellite clinic to PT Interns as well as the common causes of demerits of PT Interns in affiliate centers were recommended for further study.
