Abstract

This study aimed to identify the most common type of faulty posture among residents aged 5-15 of Brgy. San Simon DBB-C, Dasmariñas, Cavite as of December 1999. Data were collected by the researchers, together with the barangay health workers through house-to-house survey and going to schools located in this area. The schools included were; San Simon Day Care Center, Torch of Wisdom Montesoori and Dasmariñas National High School-Annex. Proper scheduling was done for interview and physical assessment for 532 respondents from a population of 1879 children ages 5-15. 105 respondents aged 5-7 came from San Simon Day Care Center, 204 respondents aged 8-11 came from Torch of Wisdom Montesori and 205 respondents aged 12-15 came from Dasmariñas National High School-Annex. Data collected were organized and put into tables for analysis. Data showed that out of the total subjects of 562 children ages 5-15, 89% of them and round back (31%) were the common type of faulty posture found in this barangay. The identifies faulty posture were common in female (51.6%) than male (48.4%) and common for children aged 10 (9.8%), 12 (9.8%) and 14 (9.6%) which were in puberty stage. 73% of the respondents with round back posture had a positive pulmonary conditions followed by kyphosis-lordosis with 24%. The author recommend that a patient education program concerning good posture, its definition, effects of exercise, prevention and complications be implemented in the form of seminars to the barangay health workers and members of the community especially the parents. Follow-up studies should be done on the following; correlation of height to occurrence of faulty posture; study on the physical environment of the children aged 5-15 in Brgy. San Simon, Dasmariñas, Cavite that may lead to faulty posture; study on scoliosis among residents aged 5-15 in this barangay.
