Abstract

This study was limited only to residents of Habay Bacoor Cavite, ages 40-80 y/o both female and male particularly those residing in Pagkakaise and Perpetual Village for at least five yrs. This covered their knowledge , practices and attitude regarding management of musculoskeletal complaints. A questionnaire was distributed among the respondents, data were collected, tabulated and analyzed for the framing of the needed information necessary for this thesis. The respondents were selected based on their availability. This study described the socio demographic status of residents in Habay, their knowledge as to causes and consultation, practice and attitude in management of musculoskeletal problems. Based on our findings, residents knowledge as to cause of musculoskeletal problems were fatigue, followed by doing repetitive activities, for some food-related and others they don't know the reason. In terms of consultation, because of the existing traditional healers we have in our country majority of the respondents seek consultation to manghihilot than to doctors, because of high cost of medications and based on their experience, hilot are effective in relieving any pain and discomforts arising from trauma to muscles and joints. The usual practice or way of treating their musculoskeletal complaints was through application of oil on affected part, followed by taking medicines/tablets, drinking herbal medicine and only few do nothing with their conditions. This was influenced by old practices and because of prevailing beliefs and methods used like herbs and massage most of them were convinced on its effectiveness. Above all that information residents in Habay believe in great power of God as healer.
