Abstract
Care of a child with cerebral palsy covers different aspects- management by means of medicine and physical therapy, care in terms of grooming and hygiene and providing psychological and emotional support. It is important that these particular aspects are met for the child welfare. With the increasing number of cerebral palsy cases and the dire need to have competent caretakes for these children, the researchers of this study decided to conduct a descriptive study to determine the effectiveness of video presentation in increasing the knowledge of cerebral palsy caretakers regarding the proper handling with cerebral palsy as to 3 aspects: dressing, proper feeding and technique on carrying correctly. This study was conducted at Elsie Gaches Village specifically at the Water Lily cottage, housed by children with cerebral palsy ages 2-10. A total of 10 qualified caretakers who met the minimum inclusion criteria participated in the study. A pre test consisting of 15 items, was given to evaluate the caretakers initial understanding regarding proper handling of children with cerebral palsy and a post test consisting of 15 items was given to gauge the effectiveness of the video. Data gathered were summarized analyzed, computed for correlated t-test and presented in tabular form. Results revealed that the computed t-value 10.06 exceeded the critical value of 4.78 at .0.01 level of significance. Further more, it was noted that a significant increase as to the mean post test from pre test. From the results gathered it was then concluded that video presentation is an effective means of increasing caretakers knowledge regarding the proper care of children with cerebral palsy.
