Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is systemic disease that should be addressed individually. A video presentation regarding the importance of diet and exercise will help the patients with Diabetes Mellitus to be aware of their disease and offer them an alternative in controlling their disease through proper diet and physical activities, rather than purely relying on medications. Data were obtained through a pre post-test of the same questionnaire and presenting a video about Diabetes Mellitus. A total of 29 diabetic in- patients from Philippine Orthopedic Center and Veterans Memorial Medical Center included in the study. Results of the study were summarized as follows: 1. Majority of the subjects were admitted to the hospitals due to kidney problems. 2. Most of the patients have limited knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus. 3. The most well-known importance of diet and exercise is it prevents general body conditioning. 4. The subjects are not aware of the type of exercise to be done and things to monitor before, during and exercise. 5. There was a significant difference on the pre and post-test after video presentation. On the basis of the above findings, the authors therefore conclude that video presentation is one effective way to increase the knowledge of diabetic good post-test scores about the Diabetes Mellitus per se, diet and exercise.
