Abstract
Batas Pambansa Bilang 344, also known as the Accessibility Law is an act to enhance the mobility of disabled persons by requiring certain buildings, institutions, establishment and public utilities to install facilities and other devices. Based from this law, the study intends to determine the accessibility of Robinsons Place Imus and SM City Bacoor specifically for wheelchair borne individuals. This can be beneficial for the owners and developers of Robinsons Place Imus and SM City Bacoor; physical Therapists and for wheelchair borne individuals as well as their caregivers and relatives most especially to caviteños. The study covered all the facilities of both commercial establishment including department stores, amusement centers, specialty shops and boutiques, parking areas, food plaza, supermarket and cinema houses. The survey instrument is a 15-item checklist wherein the number of architectural features in the area being evaluated are recorded as the specifications of different design elements measured, described and recorded. Areas included in the study to be evaluated are observed and chosen. Then, the design elements were located, counted and measured for determining if it meets the Standard Measurements based from Accessibility Law. Data gathered were reviewed, tabulated, organized and analyzed using descriptive statistics. They were categorized whether they were accessible or not accessible with the standard measurements with the corresponding percentages. The following Rating equivalent scale was provided; Highly accessible (48 features are 100% accessible), Moderately accessible (38-48 features are 100% accessible), Accessible (28-38 features are 100% accessible), Poorly accessible (18-28 features are 100% accessible), not accessible (< 18 features are 100% accessible). In rating equivalent scale, out of 48 architecture features present in Robinsons Place Imus, only 37 features has 100% accessibility, therefore it is rated ACCESSIBLE to wheelchair borne individuals; whereas in SM City Bacoor, only 33 features has a 100% accessibility and is also rated ACCESSIBLE to wheelchair borne individuals.
