Abstract

The proponents of this study used a descriptive type of study design to describe the perceptions of aerobic exercise enthusiasts on the physical and psychological benefits of aerobic exercise. The study was conducted on the located gym areas within the municipalities of Dasmariñas, Silang and Bacoor, Cavite for a 3 day duration period. A total of 50 respondents were gathered belonging to both genders whose ages range from 15-45 years of age and possessing different occupational backgrounds. A devised and validated questionnaire was used as the main data-gathering tool. Data were tabulated using frequency distribution tables and were analyzed using measures of central tendency such as the mean and weighted mean for the five point Likert scale ratings of statements to describe the acquired data. The result of the study revealed that the respondents agreed that a regular physical activity regardless mode has a positive effect on every individual's levels of physical and psychological well- being. The demographic characteristics of an Aerobic Exercise Enthusiast were equally represented by both genders, 50 respondents, 56% were female and 46% were males. They belong in 15-25 age range, a population of young adults. Most of them are students they usually do high intensity aerobic dancing with exercise duration of >1 hour duration period per session that was carried out for 3-5 x /week. Their perceived physical benefits are greatest for improvement of strength followed by improve endurance, improved health and muscle tone and weight loss. Their perceived psychological benefits are greatest for improvement on self-esteem followed by improvement on coping with anxieties and improvement on coping with stress followed usually perceived improvement on coping with depression and mood estate.
