Abstract

Pre and post partum exercises in PT have numerous benefits which can promote the health and well being of the obstetric patient but upon observation, there are NO obstetric patients who are undergoing pre and post partum PT exercises in the affiliated centers of DLS College of PT. The general objective of the study was to determine the factors associated with the referral practice of obstetrician-gynecologists tp PT. Questionnaire was formulated and was distributed to Obstetrician-gynecologists consultants of the four affiliated hospitals, of DLSU-HSCMC, ST. Dominic Medical Center, Jose P. Rizal Memorial Research and Medical Center and Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center. There were 15 respondents in this study and results showed that the referral rate of obstetrician-gynecologists to PT falls to the lowest percentage despite the fact that almost all of the subjects included in the study is knowledgeable and are aware of the exercises and its benefits to obstetric patients. This study coincide with a previous study(Torres et al, 2000) which stated that the referral practice of other health professional(Consultants) is not affected by their knowledge and awareness of the PT profession neither by their years of experience the more likely will refer their patients for PT Program.
