Abstract
Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury is common in people who participate in high-risk sports such as soccer. ACL can be injured through valgus/abduction and external rotation injury, hypertension/varus hypertension from an anterior blow, direct blow to the anterior portion of a flexed knee, forward placing of the knee in external and valgus stress, twisting injury occurring with rapid simultaneous deceleration and deceleration maneuvers, straight knee landing, landing with a hyperextended knee. The intensity, frequency, and type of play are just some of the factors that may contribute to injury or damage. However, do the players have sufficient knowledge with regards to the possibilities of them to be at high risk of ACL injury and do they practice the proper techniques to prevent from having injuries. The study aims to determine the knowledge and practices of soccer varsity players in relation to the prevention of ACL injury. Data was obtained based on the frequency and percentage of the respondents who answered "true or false" regarding the knowledge of ACL prevention, and the frequency, percentage and the mean of the respondents who answered the 5-point scale regarding practices of preventing ACL injury. Results shows that among the 16 respondents, 68.75% or 11 respondents claimed to have knowledge regarding basic anatomy of the knee. However, among these, more than half have lower percentage about the function of ACL. The rest of the results show that majority of the respondents have knowledge regarding prevention of ACL injury, and half of the respondents practice what must be done to be able to prevent ACL injury.
