Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the level of knowledge of obstetric patients regarding the role of physical therapists during prenatal, perinatal and postnatal care at the selected hospitals in Cavite. It also tried to determine the profile of the subject's age, educational attainment and monthly income. Moreover, it tried to find out the obstetric history such as gravida, parity, age of gestation as well as sources of information of the respondents regarding the role of physical therapist in prenatal, perinatal and postnatal care. This study utilized a descriptive type of research. A guided interview survey form was ventilated and administered. A total of 115 obstetric patients were used as respondents with ages ranging from 18-45 years old from selected public and private hospitals in Cavite particularly De La Salle University Medical Center and Jose P. Rizal Hospital in Dasmariñas, General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial in Trece Martires and Medical Center Imus in Imus. Results showed from the sociodemographic profile (1.) Out of 115 respondents, 68.70% belongs to age group ranging from 20-29 years old with the mean age of 28, 49.56% are college graduates and 37 or 32.12 are earning php 3100-5000. (2) In terms of obstetric history 44.35% are experiencing their 1st pregnancy, 44.35% do not have child yet and 56.52% of the respondents are currently in thier 3rd trimester (3) As to the level of knowledge regarding the role of physical therapist in prenatal care 33.91% of the respondents have high knowledge with a mean score of 6, 67.83% have an average level of knowledge about the role of physical therapist in perinatal care with a mean score of 3 and lastly, 52.17% have also an average level of knowledge when in comes to the role of physical therapist in postnatal with a mean score of 5. In general 73.04% with a raw score of 13 corresponds to an average level of knowledge. (4) The most common sources of information of the respondents were from family and friends which got 60%. In conclusion majority of the subject the researchers have surveyed in selected private and public hospitals in Cavite have a high knowledge about the role of physical therapist during the prenatal care. However, in prenatal and in postnatal care, the respondents have an average knowledge regarding the role of physical therapist during the said courses. Generally, the respondents have an average level regarding the role of physical therapist in prenatal, perinatal and postnatal care. Moreover, the obstetric patients in this study slowed that they have knowledge about what the physical therapist can do to them improved and make better during the phases of their pregnancy.
