Abstract
The objective of the study is compare the functional status of children with Down syndrome who underwent early and late PT intervention from selected PT clinics in Metro Manila, Laguna , Quezon City and Cavite. The research was a descriptive and comparative type of study between early and late PT Intervention as to their sociodemographic and functional status. This research was conducted at Biñan Doctors Hospital in Laguna, Theraneeds in Manila, JP Memorial Center in Cavite, Holistic Early Intervention Guided by Health and Therapeutic Services (HEIGHTS), Center for Early Diagnosis and Rehabilitation (CEDAR) and Center for Holistic Intervention Plans and Services (CHIPS) in Quezon City. 20 subjects were used to the clinics mentioned 10 underwent early and another 10 subjects had the PT intervention. The Omnibus Developmental Scale is a validated tool used to measure the patients functional independence. There was an equal gender distribution and the age varies when the child underwent PT. There is no significance in the functional independence of the Down Syndrome children as to self-help and motor skills of either early and late PT intervention, and their functional status are more or less the same. No significant difference in self-help and the motor skills on both Early and. Late PT interventions . Some of the methodological limitations such as larger number of subjects used. IQ level, behavior and other medical problems and conditions that were not included in this study may affect the results.
