Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge of 4th year high school students from selected private and public schools of Dasmariñas, Cavite regarding Physical Therapy as a profession. It also determines the profile of the respondent's name, age, gender and type of school, and the sources of information of the students regarding physical therapy. This utilized a descriptive type of research design. A total of 173 4th year high school students from selected public and private schools of Dasmariñas, Cavite namely Dasmariñas National East High School and Jesus Christ King of Kings Lords of Lords Foundation School were included in the study. The tool used in this study was adapted and modified by the researchers from the study of Ogiwara, Noble, Bezner and Keely entitled "Knowledge of Physiotherapy: A study of Ishikawa High school students." Results showed that out of 173 respondents, 54.34% of the respondents were 16 years old. 65.90% were females and 64.16% were from public school; In level with a percentage of 74.57% in general and 75.72% as to the nature of work; 63.58 as to cases handled and 62.43% as to job opportunities of a physical therapist; Most of the source of information of the respondents were from family and friends with 80.92%; and Most of the respondents answered " yes" to the side question that they would consider taking physical therapy as their course in college with a percentage of 55%. In conclusion, majority of the current 4th year high school students from selected private and public schools in Dasmariñas, Cavite has an average level of knowledge regarding physical therapy as a profession. The 4th year high school students in this study proved to have some knowledge about what the physical therapy profession entails. There seem, however, to be some misunderstanding about certain aspect of the profession, such as PT can Work as reflexologist.
