Abstract

To determine the common practices in preventing ankle sprain among male basketball varsity players in Dasmariñas, Cavite. This is a descriptive study that aims to determine the common practices in preventing ankle sprain injuries among male basketball varsity players in Dasmariñas, Cavite. A total of 50 basketball varsity players from the following schools: De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, De La Salle-Health Science Campus, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Technological University of the Philippines and National Coollege Science and Technology were included in the study. 50 individuals of Basketball Varsity Players in selected Universities in Dasmariñas, Cavite. Results of the study showed that 50 respondents had a mean age of 24 years old. Out of 50 respondents, age of 21 years old. Out of the 50 respondents, the least of the respondents is at the age of 23-25 years old, 18 (36%) who are Basketball Varsity Players. Results on the part II of the questionnaire revealed that the 23 (46%) respondents out of 50 hand bandaging techniques as a common practice in preventing ankle sprain injury, followed by 20 respondents (40%) wearing the high top shoes and lastly, 7 respondents (14%) used ankle taping as a preventive measures in preventing ankle sprain injury. Based on the results gathered for this study, the researchers concluded that the number one common practices used in preventing ankle sprain injury 23(46%) out of 50 male Basketball Varsity Players is bandaging with a 34 (68%) out of 50 respondents having a previous history of ankle sprain injury.
