Abstract
This is a descriptive study that determined the academic self-management skills of the College of Physical Therapy Proper Students of De La Salle-Health Sciences Campus for the School Year 2007-2008, specifically in terms of their motivational strategies, behavioral strategies and learning and study strategies. In addition, a self-assessment of their academic performance was also determined. The study was conducted at the 5th floor of the Academic (Wang) Building, College of Physical Therapy, De La Salle-Health Sciences Institute. A total of 128 respondents, 74 students of whom were from third year and 54 students were from fourth year. The researchers used a self-made survey questionnaire. Results of the study showed that the College of Physical therapy Proper students of De La Salle-Health Sciences Campus have a fair academic self-management skills based on the computed overall mean score of 2.31. They demonstrated a fair academic self management skill as to behavioral strategy and learning and study strategy based on the computed mean score of 2.26 and 2.185 respectively. This means that the students sometimes do the various behavioral and learning and study strategies. however, as to motivational strategy, the PT Proper students have a good management skill based on a computed mean score of 2.475. This means that the students always do various motivation strategies in their studies. The Self-Assessment of Academic Performance of the Physical Therapy Proper Students revealed that 53.91% of the students were satisfied with their Academic Performance and only 46.09% said that they needed improvement in terms of academic standing. Researchers then recommend that improvements must be made in the teaching strategies of the PT faculty and that follow up studies regarding the academic performance of the students must be undertaken.
