Abstract

Adherence is defined as an active, voluntary collaborative involvement of the patient in a mutually acceptable curse of behavior to produce a desired preventive or therapeutic result. The degree to which injured athletes adhere to the clinic and home-based treatment requirements is considered to be responsible in some part for the success of physical therapy programs. Although adherence to prescribed rehabilitation regimen is considered vital for achieving successfull recovery from sport injury, realtively few intervention studies in the rehabilitation literature have included indices of adherence. The main purpose of the study is to determine the level of adherence to physical therapy programs of injured varsity players in De La Salle University-Manila using the Modified Sports Injury Rehabilitation Adherence Scale (SIRAS). Target subjects of the study were injured varsity players in De La Salle University-Manila who are currently undergoing physical therapy in any stage and type of injury. Both male and female were used as a sample, aged 17-24 years old only. The study was done in the Rehabilitation clinic in De La Salle University-Manila. A total of 50 out of 336 varsity players had injuries and they comprised the study population. The respondents of this study were the 3 physical therapist of the injured varsity players in De La Salle University-Manila have a very high level of adherence to Physical therapy program using the Modified Sport Injury Rehabilitation Adherence Scale.
