Abstract

Objective: The main objective of this study is to determine the level of knowledge and common practices in the proper body mechanics of the factory workers in Optia Ltd. Inc. Research Design: Descriptive study. This is a survey to determine the level of knowledge and practices of factory workers in Optia Ltd. Inc. Setting: Optia Ltd. Inc. FCIE (First Cavite Industrial Estate) Langkaan, Dasmariñas, Cavite. Participants/Respondents: 43 factory workers at Optia Ltd. Inc. Procedures/Interventions: A letter of permissioned was given to Mr. Nezu, President. The level of knowledge was measured by giving validated questionnaires to the respondents, while the common practices were determined by observing the respondents done by the respondents. Main Outcome Measure: a self administered to the respondents wich include sociodemographic and 15 items questions regarding the definition, importance, guidelines on proper body mechanics by "Tama," "Mali," or "Di-alam." On the other hand, 15-item checklist regarding sitting, standing, and lifting was used by the researchers during observation of the practices. This is answerable by performed or not performed. Results: there were a total of 43 respondents, 11 males and 32 females. Majority of them were single whom where between ages of 20-29 years old and high school graduate. Most workers were working 6-8 hours per day and serving the company for 2-3 years. The source of knowledge was usually radios, T.V and magazines. The study shows that majority of the factory workers have high level of knowledge on proper body mechanics during their work. Conclusion: the respondents have high level of knowledge regarding proper body mechanics as to definition, importance and guidelines. It was revealed that the workers have a high level of performance in practicing proper body mechanics as to sitting, standing and lifting. Thus, the participants showed relevant results according to this method in application of the knowledge and practices regarding proper body mechanics.
