Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the level of awareness and preference of high school graduating students of De La Salle Health Sciences Institute feeder schools to the Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy of the institute. Specific objectives aims were to determine the extrinsic and the intrinsic factors in career decision, the level of awareness as to local and foreign setting and the preferences as to BSPT and DLSHSI. This study applied a descriptive quantitative research design. The researchers used a convenience typo of sampling wherein the total number of population was 610 students, in which most of them were female and in 16 years of age. Result showed that the family was the influential factor affecting the awareness and preference of the respondents regarding Physical Therapy. Most of the respondents chose to pursue a college course depending on their own choice than their parents' decision. The nature and background of the course appeared to be the reason for their interest in a college course. Majority of the respondents were moderately aware of the requirement of the graduated from BSPT of passing the licensure exam to be capable of working here in the Philippines. In the foreign setting, majority of the respondents were moderately aware of the requirement of the graduated from BSPT of passing the licensure exam to be capable of working here in the Philippines. In the foreign setting, majority of the respondents are still moderately aware that a PT graduate can work abroad provided by all credentialing requirements ordered by the employer or agency from abroad. Only the total number of 127 respondents preferred BSPT as their college course but considering it as a 3rd choice, while preferring the University of the Philippines as their choice of college school. Hence, most of the respondents did not prefer BS Physical therapy as their choice of college course as well as DLS HSI being their college school of choice. The researchers recommend new approach in the part of the Admission office of the College of Physical Therapy in promoting the course and the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute as a college school by using commercial advertisement via television, radio and magazines.
