Abstract

Basketball has been a sport that is being played almost all ages. By the time you are able to sun, dribble and shot, a person that would experience this would acquire the knowledge and keep it until that player grows up. In the college setting, basketball has been a sport that would involve high competition among school with regards to who will be the best. Endurance is frequently being missed out amongst basketball players. they tend to focus in their shooting and defense. What they do not know is endurance plays a big role in their performance. This study aims to determine the endurance level of both DLSHSI and DLSD varsity players along with the variables that potentially affects endurance. The objectives of the study are: To determine the profile of the respondents as to age, training experience and their body mass index; to determine the endurance scores of the basketball players of De La Salle University Dasmariñas and De La Salle Health Sciences Institute using the 12-minute run test; To determine if there exist significant difference in the endurance scores of the two groups per session and after nine training sessions; To describe the endurance scores of the two groups in relation to the following variables as to age, training experience and their body mass index; and to determine the implication of the endurance scores of the two groups in developing an enrich basketball training program protocol. This research study design is Exploratory. According to Santon (2008), it provides insights into, and understanding of, the problem confronting the researcher. Exploratory research is to explore or search through a problem or situation to provide insights and understanding. It is unstructed, informal research undertaken to gain background information about general nature of the research problem. It is used to gain background information, define terms, clarify problems and hypotheses and establish priorities. The result of the study indicates that basketball players of DLSD have greater endurance scores compared to the players of DLSHSI. Even though there were similarities and difference among the two groups, DLSD provided higher endurance level despite the fact that some of them are older and have greater BMI scores compared to the other group.
