Abstract

This study utilized correlational research design. Using purposive sampling,tThe participants were 149 students from the Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy Batch 2020 and 2021. Questionnaires were utilized to obtain their sociodemographic profile and level of perceived social support, which was determined using the Interpersonal Support Evaluation List (ISEL) – College Student Version. The data were analyzed with the use of the following: frequency distribution, spearman rho, and cross tabulation. Based on the information gathered and analyzed, there is no sufficient evidence to conclude that there is a significant relationship between the academic performance and level of perceived social support. The academic performance of the students may depend on several factors such as the students’ preferences, self-development, and external factors such as time management skills. The researchers also found out that most students have a high level of perceived social support, especially in the aspects of tangible and appraisal support. These students were also able to receive a high GWA; self-esteem, however, was deemed to be at a low level. With the obtained results, it may imply that active participation of the students in programs and activities aims to uplift their sense of self-esteem. Furthermore, this would encourage them to seek advice and support especially in times of crisis and bereavement. Examples of these activities are; taking part in organizations and counselling programs. Additionally, the results imply the importance of spreading awareness to the students, faculty, family, and the community regarding how social support may have a significant effect as to how the students perceive themselves, view life situations, and perform effectively.
