Abstract

The study was a single subject experimental design. Herewith, one participant who have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria was recruited in DLS Rehabilitation Medicine and Physical Therapy Center. The treatment was done in both rehab center and home practice. The subject had a conventional therapy such as breathing exercise, ES and FES for the left upper extremity and ankle muscles, active range of motion exercises of left upper extremity and lower extremity, stretching exercises of left upper extremity and lower extremity, and gait retraining for 1 hour, incorporated with 30 minutes of bowling in wii sports. The sessions last for 8 days in 2 weeks. Upon assessing the patient’s upper extremity function, the participant garnered a positive change and large effect size of upper extremity function in terms of functional ability scale and time performance as measured by the wolf motor function test. Thus concluding that Wii-Based Movement Therapy as an adjunct to conventional treatment has an effect on upper extremity function of a patient with stroke.
