Abstract
The patient was chosen through following the inclusion criteria; (a) patient diagnosed with CP (types: athetoid, spastic diplegic, spastic hemiplegic, ataxic, dystonic), (b) ages 4-18, (c) GMFCS 1 and 2, which is ambulant and semi-ambulant, respectively (d) can walk with or without an assistive device or an orthosis, and (e) can follow simple instructions. The intervention was implemented for 11 sessions everyday. The GMFM-88] dimensions used were D (standing) and E (walking, running, and jumping). The researchers conducted a study focusing on interventions to improve the gross motor skills of children with cerebral palsy and evaluate its effectivity. Following a single-subject type of research design, the researchers came across with Functional Stretching and Task-oriented Training from up-to-date journals that claims to improve gross motor skills of pediatric patients (ages 4-18) with Cerebral Palsy. In line with this, the researchers used the Gross Motor Function measure - 88 (GMFM-88) for baseline and improvement assessment. The data were analyzed with the use of interrupted time analysis and percentage difference. Based on the facts gathered and analyzed, there is a significant change to conclude that there is an effect in the gross motor skills such as walking, running and jumping of a child with cerebral palsy. With the obtained data, it may imply that longer duration of the intervention may have a significant effect on increasing the gross motor skills of a child with cerebral palsy.
