Abstract
This study aimed to determine the positive perspectives, negative perspectives, and the contributing factors to these perspectives of receiving teachers towards the social participation of LSNs in inclusive schools, specifically in Cavite. A descriptive phenomenological research design was utilized to focus on the phenomenon of firsthand experiences of the receiving teachers. For the sampling frame, the researchers obtained a list of inclusive schools from DepEd Cavite Province, Imus City, Bacoor City, Cavite City, Dasmariñas City, and General Trias City which eventually revealed two viable schools through purposive sampling. Given further limitations, convenience sampling was also utilized. A Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted with the use of a professionally validated interview guide as the research instrument. A pilot study was first implemented to verify its feasibility and to identify points to improve on. Once better established, the researchers proceeded to conduct the data gathering proper with a total of six (6) respondents. Statements of the respondents were then carefully processed and analyzed following the 6 phases of Thematic Analysis. Positive perceptions were found to stem from the capability of LSNs to integrate in social participation given external opportunities from the school system and the people involved as well as through their own intrinsic means. Negative perceptions, on the other hand, were found to root from exhibited socially inappropriate behaviors from LSNs and how their social context interacts with them. Ultimately, the contributing factors to these perceptions were found to be attitudinal and programmatic in nature. Outliers were also meaningfully extracted.
