Abstract

With technology advancing and its increasing incorporation in daily lives, even children began to use it. According to previous studies digital learning is deemed to both increase and decrease the social skills of children.Through this study, it determined the perceptions of parents on the effects of digital learning on the social participation of children ages 3 years old. To achieve this objective, a qualitative research design was used to collect and analyze the perceptions through a one-on-one interview via a video conference. A total of 5 participants were interviewed with the use of a questionnaire, validated and tested, formulated from the related literature to obtain reliable data to achieve the objectives of the study. The results of the study were analyzed through the six-step process of thematic analysis. With this, the study had identified positive perceptions such as, good expressive language skills, advantage of digital learning in development, good social skills, appropriate educational learning skills, and behaviors after digital learning. The negative perceptions include poor work behaviors and behaviors during digital learning. There are also mixed perceptions such as behaviors, prior digital learning, play skills, and general behaviors. Overall, digital learning has its fair share in both the positive and negative effects as it was deemed to help children in the early acquisition of both social skills and educational learning skills, however it was also stated to bring about negative work and social behaviors; thus, indicating that with proper control of screen time and contents watched, positive effects will be maximized and negative effects will diminish.
