Abstract

The study aimed to recognized the common spiritual, psychosocial and physical changes in behavior and the coping mechanisms manifested by widows 35-60 years old, following the immediate death of their husbands. This also sought to determine if there is a significant difference in the spiritual, psychosocial and physical changes in behavior as well as in the coping mechanisms used when the respondents are grouped according to age, employment status, type of husband's death, number and age of children and support system. This descriptive type of study involved respondents consisting of 90 widows ages 35-60 years old and widowed for 5-6 months. These widows came from the three different areas in Cavite namely Bacoor, Imus, and Cavite City. Questionnaires in Likert Scale format were distributed to the respondents. The instrument presented declarative statemenmts which were positively and negatively phrased. This study primarily focused on the behavioral changes manifested by widows 35-60 years old and the coping mechanisms they used following the immediate death of their husbands. The statistical treatment used were the following: Mean, to determine the most common behavioral changes and coping mechanisms manifested by widows; T-test, to determine the significant differences in the behavioral changes and coping mechanisms according to Employment Status and Type of Husband's Death. F-test; to determine the significant differences in the behavioral changes and coping mechanisms according to Age, Number of Children and Support Systems.
