Abstract

This study  Specifically it aimed the following: 1. To determine the profile of the respondents in terms of age, religion, school and year level. 2. To find out the level of acceptance of the respondents with regards to premarital sex. 3. To show if there is a significant difference on the level of acceptance of premarital sex when the respondents are grouped according to age, religion school and year level. This study which attempted to determine the premarital sex acceptance level of nursing students included the first to fourth year nursing students (totaling to 268) of DLSU-D and SJC-CC during the school year 1999-2000. The study reflected the following: 1. The given groupings the highest number of respondents: 16 to 18 years, for age; freshmen, for year level; Catholic, for religion; and DLSU-D, for school. 2. In the questionnaire used, item no. 21 (Sex education is a subject matter that should be more openly discussed nowadays.) obtained the highest mean and was interpreted as highly acceptable; whereas item no. 9 (I would engage in premarital sex even if I don't really love the person I'm going to do it with.) obtained the lowest mean and was interpreted as unacceptable. 3. After the respondents had been grouped according to age, religion, and school, the results showed no significant difference on the level of acceptance of premarital sex. However, there was a significant difference when they were grouped according to year level. In the light of the given findings, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. That majority of the respondents were in the mid-adolescence stage, Catholic in religion, in the freshman level and students of DLSU-D. 2. That sex education should be more openly discussed nowadays, reflecting the respondent's willingness to learn more about sex. The involvement of affection before choosing to engage in premarital sex still ranked high in the respondent's list of priorities. 3. That there is a significant difference in terms of year but no significant difference in terms of age, religion and school on the level of acceptance of premarital sex of nursing students from DLSU-D and SJC-CC.
